SUSTAINABILITY Sustainable seafood is seafood from either fished or farmed sources that can maintain or increase production in the future without jeopardizing the ecosystems from which it was acquired. Sea Delight Europe, SL understands the importance of supporting fishing practices which help maintain and increase the species' ability to maintain its population.
Sea Delight released their SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD POLICY in 2015. To learn more Click here.
Sea Delight is committed to supporting sustainable fisheries by participating in sustainability workshops and partnering with our suppliers to cooperate with appropriate NGO's (non-government organizations) working towards developing Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) in the fisheries we source from and supporting stakeholders towards their goal of achieving Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification.
Our journey towards sustainable seafood began in 2009, when we began working with WWF Indonesia to support the development of a Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) for Snapper, Grouper and Tuna. Since then, Sea Delight representatives have participated on multiple high-level panel discussions concerning seafood sustainability topics at Seafood Expo North America and SeaWeb Seafood Summit. We also attend multiple supplier roundtables organized by the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP), and have also joined the Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability.
Sea Delight is devoted to the environment and protecting seafood resources by supporting and leading the current sustainable seafood movement. We work with NGOs (non-government organizations) like the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to support Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) for tuna in Indonesia and Vietnam, and mahi-mahi in Ecuador and Peru. We also work with CeDePesca in a Grouper FIP in Mexico and mahi-mahi FIP in Guatemala. We believe in the importance of raising awareness of both overfishing and environmentally destructive fishing methods. We are also a proud partner of the International Pole & Line Foundation | IPNLF, and Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI)..
In order to continue supporting existing marine conservation efforts and develop new programs, we founded in 2012 the Sea Delight Ocean Fund, a 501 (c)(3), which mission is to support global fishery improvement projects and better fishing practices initiatives, create and promote awareness for responsible fishing practices and adequate management of the fishery, minimize the impact of bycatch and human activity on the environment; and educate the public on the need to support these programs in order to protect marine resources.
